An essential service to help detect and manage health conditions in aging pets.
Senior cats age much faster than we do and need special care and treatment. At Campbell River Veterinary Hospital, we recommend that our senior cats have a physical exam every six months to watch for any concerns that can creep up. Yearly blood work is also encouraged to ensure a healthy cat and monitor kidney and liver values.
If your cat is sleeping more, not as active, or not eating as much. If you are noticing any of these, please let your veterinarian know.
You should schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to discuss the changes in your cat. Your veterinarian will do a physical exam and give you recommendations on a test that should be performed if needed.
Consider a life of retirement, keep inside more often if your cats go outside a lot. You may notice that your cat doesn’t want to jump as high as it used to. Also, regular veterinary check-ups.
Some concerns for senior cats are kidney diseases, arthritis, dental disease, and hyperthyroidism. Your veterinarian will discuss these with you and determine the best course of action.
