Spaying and neutering are very important for the health of your cat, spaying at a young age can prevent mammary cancer. Neutering male cats can reduce unwanted behaviours such as roaming, fighting and marking. Urine odour will also be reduced.

What is spaying or neutering?

Spaying is the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus, while neutering is the surgical removal of the testicles.

When should I neuter/spay my cat?

Kittens can be spayed and neutered as early as eight weeks of age, but we recommend six months of age.

What is the procedure to spay/neuter a cat?

During a spay your cat is put on IV fluids and goes under general anesthetic. The doctor makes an incision into the abdomen and removes the uterus and ovaries. For a neuter, your cat is put under general anesthetic, and the testicles are removed.
